In 1145 Adelvolk von Reifenberg, his wife Richenza and his two brothers founded the monastery Speinshart and gave it to the Premonstratensians. The abbey was repealed in 1556 in the course of the Reformation in the Upper Palatinate and was repopulated in 1661 from the monastery Steingaden. The place came in the Thirty Years' War to the Electorate of Bavaria and formed until the secularization in 1803 a closed Hofmark the monastery. The monastery came after the secularization initially in state ownership and later housed, inter alia, the vicarage, a school and the forestry office.
