The highest source of the Spree is on the western slope of the Kottmar at a height of 478 meters. In 1921, a semi-circular phonolite stone wall was built around the source in a slope niche on the Kottmar, from which the Eibauer Spreequelle, also known as Buchenborn, emerges. It lists the hometowns of those who died in World War I and were members of the Lusatia Mountain Club. The complex surrounded by beech and spruce trees was renovated in 1957.

The source of the Spree with the most water is about 4km away on a hiking trail, in front of the public baths in Neugersdorf, and it is said that the most beautiful of the 3 sources is about 1km away, on the Spreeborn in Ebersbach.
