The Gronselenput [CORRECT NAME !!]

a natural, always flowing source.

Until 1963, this source was the only drinking water supply for the residents on top of the hill, the Keutenberg. Every day, even in the winter with snow and ice, people went down the 176 meter high steep and slippery Putweggetje to fetch water. This was usually done by the children. With a wooden yoke or "haam" with two buckets, the children walked "Eine gangk put haole". At home, the spring water or "put water" was poured into a jug. This jug or "putbaar" had 1, 2 or 3 rose stars that indicated how many buckets of water could fit in the jug..

In. 1906, the source was walled up as a well. However, this caused drainage problems and in 1924 the front was removed again.

The Gronselenput used to be a meeting place to exchange the latest news. These conversations were called "Bare-binge". And in the meantime, the laundry was often done.

As a child, Nardus Somers often stood at the source with a drinking cup in his hand to offer tourists "real Limburg well water". This usually earned him one cent. If he had stood there all day instead of just going to school, he was "filthy rich". His wages could sometimes amount to 7 or 8 cents, a nice amount for that time.

The name Gronselenput could come from a priestess and her daughter Gronsela, who lived on top of the Keutenberg. They served a temple that was built above this source. The name may also refer to the pieces of marl/lime (called gronselen) that bubble up in the source.
