Did an evening tour of it and boarded the crater from the Dimmuborgir side, which leads almost in fall line in soft sand up, was very difficult. There is probably an easier ascent from the east side, would take the next time.

From a distance, the crater looks impressive, but on top, it was a great feeling to stand on this huge crater and enjoy the great and wide view.

There are two different ways of ascent - an easy one (rather a walk) and a strenuous one, which leads steeply upwards. The climbs are on opposite sides of the slope (there are signs)

The view compensates for the arduous climb. Definitely bring a windbreaker. The Iceland wind is often very extreme and bundled due to the shape of the crater at the top. So be prepared for the wind and enjoy the rough, enchanting nature of Iceland :)

Even from a distance, Hverfjall rises majestically into the sky, with its impressive height of 200 meters and a diameter of one kilometer. Just the idea that this massive tuff ring made of ash and loose material was created by huge steam explosions makes you pause in awe. But it is the climb that brings this natural wonder to life.

The hike to the summit can be challenging, especially when the wind is intensified by the shape of the crater above. A tip: definitely bring a windbreaker. But the effort is worth it. Once at the top, a breathtaking panorama opens up that is hard to beat in terms of its vastness and majesty. The harsh, enchanting face of Iceland unfolds before your eyes as cool winds refresh you.

The 3 kilometer long circular path that surrounds the crater is not only an impressive walk, but also a window into the past, a reflection of the unbridled forces of nature. Standing on the edge of the crater, looking at a lunar landscape full of boulders and stones, makes you feel the size and respect for nature.

A special highlight is the view of nearby Mývatn, the “Mückensee”, which fits picturesquely into the landscape. As you hike on the crater rim, you feel how small and at the same time great humanity is in the midst of this raw, untouched nature.

But be warned: this hike can be too dangerous with small children. The peaks can be stormy and nature allows no mistakes. But for those who dare to make the climb, the reward is an unforgettable experience.
