    Here lies the wreckage of B-29 Superfortress Overexposed of the 16th photographic reconnaissance squadron usaf. which tragically crashed whilst decending through cloud on 3rd November 1948 killing all 13 crewmembers. The aircraft was on a routine flight from RAF Scampton to American AFB Burtonwood. It is doubtful the crew ever saw the ground.

        As Gemma and Mal said, 13 lost US Airmen lost their lives in this 1948 air crash. Back in Wales the hillsides are festooned with similar wreckage sites from UK, Commonwealth and US aircraft and their fallen aircrew. Always sad to see and I always like to pay my respects. Paid my two minute homage of silence. Rest in peace fallen flyers, never forgotten.

            Take a hike up via Doctors Gate. It’s a tougher climb but very rewarding with good views and less people!

              There is a monument with a placque in memory of the 13 lives that were lost on board the B29 superfortress in 1948. The wreckage is scattered over Bleaklow moor but much of it has weathered far less than you would think. Poppy's are laid in remembrance

                This is not a visitor attraction. Though not a huge undertaking in the right weather and with a good sense of direction, people keep getting lost and having to call for help.
                Take a good map, compass, GPS or whatever it takes so you don't get lost. It goes dark every night so should not be a surprise and the torch on the phone that you are navigating with will not be enough to get you home, nor will it work in the rain or if you drop it.
                It definitely does a fair amount of raining up here. Park on the yellow lines, either side and you will get a ticket. Block gates and you might find your car in a different place to where you left it. If you like solitude on your walks then this is not one for you.

                  One of the more popular walks in the Peak District, but not one to be underestimated. The weather can change quickly up here so make sure you're prepared with a map, compass (and know how to use them) and plenty of layers. This is not a walk to do in your flip flops. The easiest way to access the site is from Snake Pass, following part of the Pennine Way.

                      A moment for reflection. Really easy to find from the Snake Pass then follow the route to Higher Shelf Stones. It is just a couple of metres lower than the summit.

                                    Not necessarily an easy ascent in wet conditions it will be wet, muddy and boggy even on the waymarked paths. Appropriate footwear is a must.

                                        Great hike up to the crash site, quite an eerie feeling knowing that unfortunately 13 people died on this very spot.
