The zoo is divided into four theme areas: Alaska, Africa, Asia and Grimberger Hof.

Alaska gives an insight into all four vegetation zones of the "big" model: the coastal rainforest, the tundra, the mountainous region and the polar region. Special features here include the underwater glass tunnel in the seal pool, the 3,000 m² Bärenanlage or the Alaska Ice Adventure, a simulated ride in an igloo on an ice floe.

Africa shows a village with domestic breeds, various savannahs and the rainforest. A boat trip leads along the landscape enclosures. The boats are reminiscent of their design to the eponymous steamboat from the movie African Queen.

Asia is the newest area with jungles, orangutans and fruit bats. A 1,300-meter-long promenade, sometimes even 5 meters in height, meanders through the jungle.
