Even today, the impressive 8-meter-high city wall made of field stones and the ramparts bear witness to the early defensive measures taken to protect the city. When the Hussites from Bohemia threatened the city in 1432, it was above all the steadfastness of the city wall that contributed to the Bernauers' victory. As in the past, small alleys run along the wall, taking visitors back in time. Of the three historic city gates, the Stone Gate has survived to this day.
