On the way from Stein am Rhein you pass through some pretty Swiss villages. About halfway through Berlingen with its Protestant village church from 1842, which dominates the silhouette.

Berlingen was first mentioned in a document in 894 under the name "Perenwang" or "Berenwang" – which means nothing other than the Bero corridor. As a result, the name of the settlement on the lake changed several times, to "Bernach" and finally to "Bernang", then to "Berlang". It was not until 1750 that the village was given the name "Berlingen". Berlingen was already linked to the Reichenau monastery in the early Middle Ages.

On the opposite (German) side of the lake you can see the Höri with Hemmenhofen, Gaienhofen and Horn. After Berlingen, the island of Reichenau comes into view.
