The Nagold is considered a tributary of the Enz. However, here at the confluence it carries more water than the upper reaches of the Enz, is almost twice as long as the upper reaches of the Enz and has the larger catchment area. However, the upper Enz has the wider valley and maintains its direction of flow and is thus the main river.
