A hike to Freienstein is definitely worth it. But it is also challenging, quite steep at the beginning, which requires a certain level of fitness, and further up there are sections where surefootedness and a head for heights are required. In places there are ropes to hold on to.

Total time for the circular hike is three and a half hours.

Small mountain for the area, but powerful. Interesting views of the Ennstal and the surrounding area. Including nice scrambling (several short secured passages in the rock). You should be sure-footed in any case.

From Assach, the ascent is very comfortable up to the Assacher Scharte, followed immediately by a steep, rope-secured section. The summit ridge continues relatively flat, and shortly before the summit, there's another rope-secured section. Overall, every potentially dangerous and exposed section is well secured with ropes and footholds.
