Oberinn was mentioned for the first time under the name Malgrei St. Leonhard. The name Oberinn is derived from the word Inn, which means "way". The "Obere Weg" Oberinn led from Lengmoos to Wangen Castle. The settlement was carried out by the inhabitants of the surrounding villages of Rittens. One of the oldest farms in Oberinn is the “Mair zu Egg” farm, which was first mentioned in 1309. It was a gift from Otto, Duke of Carinthia and Tyrol, to his wife Euphemia. Oberinn was initially united with the parish of Wangen. Oberinn has only had its own parish since 1960, making it the highest in the Teutonic Order.
The Romanesque church built around 1200 was originally called "St. Leonhard in the forest ”. Today only the tower dates from this time. A Leonhard chain is stretched around the church wall itself. The inauguration of the Lourdes chapel next door took place in 1982.
