    The European watershed between the Rhine and Danube is located in this moss. All water that flows north and over the Neckar goes over the Rhine into the North Sea and everything on the southwestern side flows over the Danube into the Black Sea. Hard to believe, but true.

                      We love those plank trails through the moor, especially when the water gurgles under our feet, when the frogs croak and when the atmosphere is nice misty-damp. This was unfortunately not granted to us this year, because it was very dry. Nice to walk was the way but anyway.

                        "A hiking trail leads around the core area of the Schwenninger Moos through spruce and birch forest, from which you can partially see the open moorland. A short walkway allows you to see the regenerating vegetation of the moor up close without illegally blocking the moor The Neckarweg long-distance hiking trail begins in Schwenninger Moos and follows the course of the Neckar to the mouth in Mannheim.

                        In 2008, “Moosgeschichten. Encounters at the Origin of the Neckar ”by Klaus Peter Karger published a documentary about the Schwenninger Moos, which was shown in regional cinemas and is available on DVD. [3] [4] [5]

                        In 2010 the state garden show took place in Villingen-Schwenningen. In the course of the work for this, the industrial wasteland of the former freight station in the district of Schwenningen, which was in need of renovation, was transformed into a spacious park, the Neckarpark. This is followed by the Möglingshöhe city park with the symbolic Neckar spring and the Bauchenberg landscape park. This continuous green area now connects the city center with the Schwenninger Moos.                                       The Schwenninger Moos is a sizable moor area and has an area of about 100 hectares. The source of the Neckar is located directly in the Schwenninger Moos, which is around 700 meters above sea level on the European watershed. A circular route of approx. 3.5 kilometers leads around the Schwenninger Moos. This circular route is popular with walkers and joggers alike. Most of the time the hiking trail leads directly along the moss. The water flows from the moss to the southwest, to the Marbacher Talbach, but also to the Brigach and thus to the Danube. Part of the moss water is directed north into the Bauchenberg rainwater retention basin.
