"... The Moersbach, called the Moers Canal on the upper reaches, is a small river in the Wesel district in North Rhine-Westphalia. The brook lies on the left Lower Rhine and begins in Krefeld-Traar. It flows through the urban area of Moers from south to north and joins Rheinberg in the district of Ossenberg in the Rhine. In the course of its almost 30 km length, the Moersbach has inflow from many small drainage streams, mostly designated with "X-ditches" and is the receiving water for an approximately 160 km² large landscape area.

History: In the Middle Ages up to the first centuries of modern times, the Moersbach carried more water than it does now and was accordingly significantly wider. The brook area in the area of Strommoers was also referred to in old writings as "Stromeuser Meer". Another indication of this is a "City Council Protocol" of the municipality of Rheinberg from 1646. In it the commander of the "Tourreinischen and Weymarian troops" was requested to repair the destroyed bridge over the brook near Strommoers. Furthermore, the waters called Kendel at that time were rich in fish. At that time, the citizens of Rheinberg claimed the right to fish as far as “Stromeurs” (Strommoers).
