You have to look for entry into the cave, but you will be rewarded with many small stalagmites and stalactites. ;-)

If others had held back, one would be able to see more here ...

My insider tip on this tour. It is only slightly off the main route, but most of it goes past it. Therefore, at least there is some rest. It is very nice that you can see many stalactites and their mini versions there. The troughs on the cave ceiling glitter wonderfully in the flashlight. You can also find somewhat larger formations. And access is not difficult. Easy to master even for small intrepid children.

Caves are a sensitive habitat (not just in winter!) for species that can only live here, in the dark. This includes a special species of spider that hangs its nests on the cave ceiling; tiny springtails and water fleas live in the water basins. If you trample through their habitat, they disappear. Please be considerate!

Absolutely worth seeing small cave. The entrance is rather inconspicuous, but beautiful stalactite formations can be seen inside. After about 5m you are in a larger hall with the beautiful stalactite formations. Don't forget your flashlight.

At the far end is a small crawlspace that probably doesn't lead any further, if the cave guide who has just instructed his group is to be believed.

The cave is located on Hohlen Berg, about one kilometer east of Muggendorf. The Doctor's Cave is around 50 meters long and its entrance measures around five by three meters. After its discovery, the cave was heavily modified by development work. There are still remains of the original stalactite decoration and some sinter basins.

The cave was named after the Muggendorf doctor Dr. Adolf Schauwienold, who discovered it in 1905. The cave became known when Herbert W. Franke, an Austrian journalist, scientist and speleologist, carried out a radiometric age determination (C14 method) of a stalactite in 1959.

The Doctor's Cave was closed with a wooden door for a long time, but is now accessible all year round. No special equipment is required to navigate
