Pilgrimage chapel "St. Jost" in Langenfeld
St. Jost is a district of Langenfeld and is located in the romantic Nitztal. Next to the old former mill (now a privately owned house) stands the pilgrimage chapel of St. Jost, which is dedicated to Saint Jodokus, directly on the Nitz river.

According to legend, the chapel was originally supposed to be built by the Count of Virneburg at the foot of the castle hill in Virneburg. However, the building materials prepared for the construction were washed away by a strong storm when the Nitz overflowed its banks in Virneburg and were found two kilometers down the valley. The Count of Virneburg saw this as a sign from heaven and built his chapel exactly on the spot where the timber was washed up.
The pilgrimage chapel, dedicated to Saint Jodokus - whose veneration has been widespread in Germany since the 9th century - has since been the destination of many pious pilgrims and believers who come here to ask for a good harvest, protection against storms or fire, and help with illnesses - especially throat problems.

Today, pilgrimages to St. Jost take place every year on the last two weekends in September and the first two weekends in October, and anyone can take part.

The rooms of the pilgrimage chapel in St. Jost also provide the setting for a "Baroque concert", which has enjoyed great popularity for several years and takes place every year on Whit Monday.

But the pilgrimage chapel in St. Jost also offers guests who simply want to enjoy peace and quiet a unique opportunity for reflection, simply because of its idyllic location.

The chapel can also be reached on foot, for example via the "Jodokusweg".

Nearby is also the 3-tunnel visitor mine "Grube Bendisberg", which offers fantastic insights into the interior of the earth. The associated miner's hut also offers a nice place to stop for a break.
