The Evangelical Lutheran St. Johannes Church in Schleswig-Holstein's Seester is a patron saint of the Uetersen Monastery (today the Evangelical noble women's convent). St. John did not become Protestant until 1555, when the Uetersen monastery refused to follow the order of the Danish king.

The church building is located on a mound that is lined with tall linden trees. In the old churchyard around the church building you can find several grave steles from the 19th century and even older grave stones, the oldest of which is dated 1663. The new cemetery adjoins the Warft to the northwest.

The church is the center of a historical ensemble of buildings in the village center of the Seester municipality, consisting of the pastorate, a former inn, which today houses the church office and the church kindergarten, a hall building, a single-family house, which used to be the church's sexton, and the church. As a cultural monument of special importance, the group of buildings is under ensemble protection. The St. Johannes Church, as well as the pastorate, the former restaurant and the hall building are owned by the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Seester.

The St. John's Church is mentioned for the first time in 1223. The church visible today was built in 1428 or shortly before. It was originally only half the size and was later expanded to its present size. Multiple renovations and repairs (on a larger scale in 1844 and 1888/89) gave the church its present-day appearance.

The interior is remarkable. The baroque altar, one of the most beautiful in Holstein, was donated by local farmers in 1631, in the middle of the Thirty Years' War. Scenes from the life and death of Jesus are shown in beautiful, rustic-looking carvings on six picture panels. Above it can be seen Moses with the tablets and John the Baptist, with an image of the resurrection in between. The pulpit, carved in transitional forms from Renaissance to Baroque, also dates from 1631. It shows Jesus, Matthew with the angel, Luke with the bull, Mark with the lion and John with the eagle.

The free-standing bell tower was mentioned in a wooden bill at the end of the 16th century. The wood has of course been renewed several times. In addition to the belfry, there was also a tower temporarily, which was destroyed in 1628 and not rebuilt. The large bell was cast in 1668, the small one to replace the previous one after the Second World War.

The church is framed by the old cemetery, which is surrounded by 120 year old linden trees. With its large number of relatively well-preserved grave monuments from the 18th and 19th centuries, it is an outstanding cultural monument.
