Chenonceau Castle is a moated castle in the French town of Chenonceaux in the Indre-et-Loire département of the Center-Val de Loire region. Its main building is surrounded by water on the north bank of the Cher, while the later built gallery bridges the river. Located in the heart of Touraine, about twelve kilometers south of the Loire at Amboise, Chenonceau is one of the castles of the Loire.

Every year, around 800,000 tourists visit the complex, making Chenonceau the most visited palace in France after Versailles. The "most elegant, finest and most original of the Loire Castles" is also known as the Ladies' Castle (French Château des Dames), because it was almost always women who determined its history and fate.

You want to have a breathtaking view of the castle without necessarily visiting it! Go to the left bank of the Cher at the foot of the rd80 bridge (47°19'35.3"N 1°04'59.1"E), you will find a car park. After a few hundred meters on foot, the castle will be offered to you!

The Château de Chenonceau is part of a duo, it must be visited with the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire, these two châteaux having been the joint property of Anne de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici.
It was in Chenonceau that Catherine de Medici organized the Regency of the Kingdom of France; Chenonceau was also from 1940 a crossing point of the demarcation line used by the resistance to organize the passages from the occupied zone to the free zone.
A very beautiful architecture, astonishing with this magnificent gallery which throws a bridge between the two banks of the Cher...
A must see.

We got there at 10:00 a.m. and that was already late. However, we were able to move around unhindered - there were no people in one room or a maximum of 5 people.
After our tour at 11:30 a.m., I took a special photo of the first room (from the ticket office to the left) - herds of cows! People were almost pushing and that would no longer be acceptable for me.

But I can only warmly recommend visiting the castle to everyone!

As I said, we were there at 10 a.m. - the number of visitors was manageable and it was possible to take photos inside and outside without crowds!
I enjoyed visiting a "small" castle - I can only recommend that everyone visit the Château de Chenonceau - it has an eventful history.

We were here at 10:00 a.m.
The rush of visitors was still limited at this time - even if 10:00 a.m. was already much too late.
If you want to have a little of Chenonceau to yourself, you have to be there by 9:00 a.m.
Despite this, we were not crowded by visitors that day. We were able to take photos in rooms and sometimes there were only 1 or 2 other people.
You can see from my pictures that there were relatively few people around.
We had a great time in the castle and I can only recommend it to everyone.
Just... come early!
