This is a former sluice lock. Friedrichschleuse (also the name of the place) The name of the lock goes back to the Prussian King Frederick the Great, who was also Prince of East Frisia from 1744. The Friedrichsschleuse is located on the Harle, halfway between the historic Sielhafen in Carolinensiel and Harlesiel.
In earlier times, the harbor entrance for the Carolinensieler Hafen, today the museum harbor, was here. The bascule bridge, built in the Dutch style and restored in 1990, also allows sailing ships to pass through to the museum harbor in the center of Carolinensiel.
