The windmill in Nebel is one of the few fully functional windmills from historical times in North Friesland. It was built in 1771 on the highest point on the island.
In this earth dutch windmill barley was peeled in the first few years. In 1922 the windmill was converted into a basement dutchman and an attached shed was used to store the grain. In 1963 the milling operation was stopped. On the initiative of the island pastor Pörksen, an association preserved the mill and redesigned the building complex into a local museum. In the mill, the history of the house, the flora and fauna of the island and the sea, prehistoric and early historical finds as well as folklore objects are exhibited.

The opening times
the mill and the local history museum are:
daily from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Mondays until 4 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m.
Museum open from April to October
