In 1903, the bronze sculpture of Crown Prince Friedrich was erected directly in front of the entrance to the castle park on the city side. It was created by the Berlin sculptor Gottlieb Elster. The figure shows the future Prussian King Friedrich II, who lived in Rheinsberg Castle from 1736 to 1740. Here he cared for a wide variety of muses and studied literature. His bronze image is therefore based on a pile of books. In 1950 the memorial was removed and stored in Potsdam-Sanssouci.
In 1995, generous donations made it possible to re-erect it at the original location.
