The Manaca-Iznaga Tower is located in an old sugar estate located about 15 km from the city of Trinidad, in the extensive Valle de los Ingenios.
There are many legends that exist about the construction of the Torre Manaca-Iznaga between the years 1815-1830. This 45 m high bell tower allowed for continuous surveillance of the sugar plantations, preventing the possibility of the slaves escaping. The bells located in the upper part of the tower marked the beginning and end of the working hours. In addition, they served to give warning in case of fire in the surrounding land.
The long internal staircase allows visitors to climb seven levels to reach the top of the tower from where they can see the farm where the sugar factory, the mansion and the slave sheds were located. In the mansion there is a restaurant where you can have lunch during the visit.
