Bicycle infrastructure failures, for example:
In the eastern part of Birkendamm
- mangy cobblestones,
- far too narrow for cyclists of different speeds, plus oncoming cyclists and pedestrians who often walk here with dogs and in groups,
- bumps in the road caused by the roots of the birch trees growing directly along the route,
in the western part
- no continuous bicycle path, but patchwork,
- no priority for the "cycle route" over cross-traffic (as in the eastern part),
- mishmash of different surface coverings and road widths and
- in some places not even a designated bicycle path, but simply shared use of the sidewalk-less road.
The former tram route needed less space on the side than a bidirectional pedestrian/cycle path does now. And actually this should be part of a bicycle route - what's the point of the pedestrians?
So: You should cycle along Birkendamm for historical reasons. But great is something else.
