Today, the castle is in dire need of renovation and is therefore permanently closed.

In 2020, a construction concession agreement with a term of 27 years was concluded between the state of BW and the private Schloss-Collection GmbH & Co KG. The company is then obliged to renovate the castle and is then entitled to use the building commercially for the duration of the contract. The state is contributing to the additional costs due to the monument protection with start-up funding of 6 million euros

The Kaltenstein Castle is visible from afar above the town of Vaihingen an der Enz. An unmistakable landmark that looks particularly beautiful in the evening in the soft sunlight. The building was mentioned in a document at the end of the 11th century as Vaihingen Castle.
