After the Franco-German war had been cleared away and filled with soil, parts of the Bastion Cleve, which represented the southeastern end of the former Magdeburg fortress, were uncovered during reconstruction work in 2004. Since 2010 you can descend the stairs here and admire the exposed walls. In addition, from here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Magedeburg Cathedral, especially in summer.

The Bastion Cleve is the southeastern end of the former fortress Magdeburg.

The central element of the bastion is the medieval tower "Tower Cleve", which was supplemented in the 16th century by other facilities. In 1709, the Bastion Cleve merged with the "Bastion Gebhardt", which came from the siege of Magdeburg in the Thirty Years' War. After the Franco-Prussian War parts of the fortress were removed from 1872. As part of the then city redesign, in which, among other things, the Fürstenwallpark and the war memorial were created, large parts of the bastion have been filled with soil.

In reconstruction work at this point in 2004 to date unknown fortress remains were rediscovered. The restoration was completed in 2010 and the bastion was handed over to the public during the International Building Exhibition.

The Cleve Bastion is the southern fortification on the Elbe and the south-eastern end of the former Magdeburg fortress.
The medieval defense tower "Cleve Tower" forms the central element here. The Cleve Bastion merged in 1709 with the former "Rondell Gebhardt", which came from the siege of Magdeburg in the Thirty Years' War. Now the "Rondell Cleve" strengthened the upstream "Bastion Cleve".

The bastion has a gun barrel from 1530/40 and a powder magazine that was later used as a wine cellar. The area of the “Bastion Cleve” was filled in with the construction of Hegelstrasse.

The bastion has been exposed again since 2007 and is open to the public for inspection. The Tourist Information regularly offers guided tours in this area.
