As the oldest Gothic building on German soil, the Magdeburg Cathedral, built in 1207, is not only important in terms of architectural history. Standing free on the cathedral square, the landmark of the city is a truly imposing building. If you approach the 104-meter high building while looking up in the direction of the towers with your head up, it can lead to slight vertigo attacks. :-) But not only the cathedral is worth a visit, but the entire surrounding old town part with the excavations of the Bastion Cleve, which was lovingly restored, is worth seeing.

The Magdeburg Cathedral (official name Dom zu Magdeburg St. Mauritius and Katharina) is the sermon church of the regional bishop of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany, Evangelical parish church and at the same time the symbol of the city.

The cathedral is the first Gothic cathedral designed from the beginning and the earliest completed Gothic cathedral on German soil. It was built from 1207 or 1209 as a cathedral for the Archdiocese of Magdeburg and consecrated in 1363. The cathedral is Otto the Great's grave church.
