    The building, originally erected at the foot of the Kreuzspitze in 1876, was modeled on Hunding's dwelling in the first act of the opera "Walküre" from the "Ring des Nibelungen". The Hundinghütte was destroyed by fire in 1884, and was rebuilt a few months later in the same place and in the same form. In 1945 the building caught fire again. A replica was built in 1990 in the Linderhof Palace Park.

          The Hunding Hut is a romantic log building in the park of Linderhof Castle in Upper Bavaria (municipality of Ettal, district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen). The small-scale architecture, reconstructed in 1990, originally stood a few kilometers west of the castle in the Ammerwald.

          In 1876, the year of the first Bayreuth Festival, Ludwig II had his Hunding Hut built deep in the Ammerwald, far from Linderhof Castle near the Austrian border. The hut was built according to a description of the set design for Richard Wagner's first act of Die Walküre. The interior of a living room. In the middle stands the trunk of a mighty ash tree, whose strongly raised roots disappear far into the ground; the tree is separated from its tops by a timbered roof, which is cut in such a way that the trunk and the branches stretching out in all directions pass through precisely corresponding openings; The leafy treetop is believed to spread over this roof...
