          The individual districts of St. Peter-Ording already differed from other coastal towns in ancient times. Due to the extremely strong sand drift, no harbor could be established here - so no fishing was possible. Agriculture, on which the former population lived, was also difficult, as the lands were often salinated or silted up by flooding.
          In 1877 the first hotel in the municipality was built. That was the beginning of a successful career at St. Peter Ordings as a seaside resort. The first sanatorium was opened in 1913 after the Köhlbrand house was founded as a children's recreation home in 1911.
          When a strong source of iodine brine was found in 1953 and it was recognized as a North Sea therapeutic and sulfur bath, patients both large and small were increasingly sent to St. Peter-Ording for a cure. House Köhlbrand was the first of a total of 35 children's rest homes in the village.

            The Ording bathing area is the largest and most popular beach in St. Peter-Ording. In the high season (March 15th - October 31st) you can easily drive to the beach parking lot. A bicycle bridge and pedestrian bridge make it easy to get from the dike to the beach.

            The family-friendly and water sports-friendly beach offers plenty of space for everything you like to do on holiday on the North Sea - from sitting in a beach chair, playing in the largest sandpit to swimming in the North Sea, taking a walk along the water or listening to the North Sea waves. Around 500 beach chairs on 10 beach chair platforms await holidaymakers here. In certain areas, dog owners can find a suitable beach chair for themselves and their dogs. Four-legged friends are welcome on the entire beach, on a leash. Showers and toilets ensure a good feeling of well-being on the beach. The lifeguards from the tourism center, with the support of the DLRG, ensure a supervised beach.

            The pile-dwelling restaurant Strandbar 54° Nord is mostly in the water and can be reached via a bridge. In Ording there is also a large beach playground for children. For the big water or beach sports enthusiasts, a special kite and surfing zone has been set up in the water between Bad and Ording, where you can ride. Please always pay attention to the local signs here!

            Life pulsates on Ording beach when national and international athletes come to SPO to show top sporting performances. Our highlights such as the kite festival, beach volleyball or kite surfing attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the beach on the event site right by the sea every year. With a beautiful view of the North Sea, the sound of the waves, music and sunset, you can spend a wonderful day here. In the season, there are free activities on the beach such as children's entertainment, beach aerobics and much more.

                        It's just great to get to the beach by bike or on foot over the jetty. For the first little stretch, pedestrians and cyclists have to share the jetty and the cyclists have to push their bikes for this little stretch. After that, the jetties split up and everyone has their own, so the cyclists can take their bikes to the beach where there are enough bike racks. Simply perfect 👍🏻👍🏻
