Canale is a district of Ville del Monte opposite the Bocca Magnone, which has survived the centuries without much change. On the southern slope of Mount Misone lie contiguous and closely nested stone houses of strikingly unified Trentino style.
In 1967, the painter Giacomo Vittone opened his studio in Canale as one of the first "new citizens" when the village was already largely abandoned. Today, the Casa degli Artisti painters and sculptors from the region for undisturbed work in a nostalgic ambience.
Every year at the beginning of August, a one-week medieval village festival (Rustico Medioevo) takes place in Canale. There is a wide range of entertainment, from theatrical performances in costumes, inspired by old paintings, peasant Trentino singing performances to epicurean delicacies from local cooking pots. In addition, artists from the region come up with a variety of surprises for the entertainment of the population and the guests. The event series has become a fixture in the cultural life of Trentino.
