The Schlüsselburg barrage at water kilometer 236.6 is a dam with an associated hydroelectric power plant. It was built in the 1950s. The Schlüsselburg barrage is a dam on the Mittelweser with an associated hydroelectric power station and is located in the East Westphalian town of Petershagen in the Minden-Lübbecke district in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The Schlüsselburg barrage at water kilometer 236.6 was built in the 1950s as one of several barrages on the Middle Weser in order to keep the water level as constant as possible and to make the waterway passable for large ships. The weir was built in 1956 and consists of two fields, each 40 m wide. The dam height is 4.50 m. The weir is operated by the Verden Water and Shipping Authority.
At the same time, a run-of-river power plant was built and has been in operation since 1956. The power plant with its three Kaplan turbines has a capacity of 5.0 MW and supplies an average of 28 GWh of electrical power annually. The power plant in Schlüsselburg is monitored from a central control room located in the Erzhausen pumped storage plant.

The Schluesselburg barrage is also located in a loop of the Weser. The weir system has the task of damming the Weser water for shipping to a depth of 2.80 meters. There is a hydroelectric power station in the weir. From Müsleringen to Schlüsselburg, a lock canal that runs parallel to and west of the Weser for around 3.5 kilometers shortens the “Weser waterway”. In the lock in Schluesselburg, the difference in height of the water dammed in front of the weir is overcome by lowering and raising the water level. The lock canal flows back into the Weser between Schlüsselburg and Stolzenau. The often monotonous view of the canal often turns out to be more diverse underwater than it seems.
