This is more than just a country castle. Here is the tourist information office, Café Fritz and the Biosphaerium. The Biosphaerium includes the aquarium, the beaver house and the observation tower. Entry costs €7, it's worth it. The observation tower can only be accessed via the Biosphere.

The castle is the location of various events.

Only part of the round tower remains of the former moated castle, the age of which cannot be precisely determined. Duke Ernst II of Braunschweig Lüneburg had the older, still existing castle wing built in 1600, and the newer one was built in 1742. Under the Prussian administration, the Bleckede and Neuhaus offices were merged to form the Bleckede district on April 1, 1885.

After the Löwenstat was founded by Duke Wilhelm of Lüneburg in 1209, a moated castle was built around 1270, of which the tower and the moats, first mentioned in 1287, have largely been preserved. After centuries of being pledged to the city of Lüneburg, the castle came back into Guelph hands in 1561.

Duke Ernst of Braunschweig and Lüneburg built the north wing with decorative wood carvings. In 1743 the west wing was rebuilt. In 1827, the Hanover local writer Auguste von der Elbe was born here.

The castle was the seat of the bailiff for the Bleckede office until 1885, then the seat of the administration of the Bleckede district until 1932, and finally the seat of the district court until 1974.

The Otto Meissner Verlag was housed in the north wing from 1948 to 1983, the branch of the Barendorf adult education center was housed in the west wing from 1976 to 1996, and the coach house became an artists' facility.

After extensive restoration, the castle opened in 2002 as an information center for the Lower Saxony Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve. This cultural landscape is presented in a modern way on around 1,000 square meters; Since 2011, the fish of the Elbe and the Elbe beavers can also be experienced live.”

The Biosphaerium Elbtalaue – Bleckede Castle is a listed historical ensemble from different centuries.
The oldest part is the historic tower stump, which dates back to the 13th century. The two wings of the building date from around 1600 and the middle of the 18th century, respectively.
Due to the different construction times, the two wings have a very different appearance. While the younger west wing from the late Baroque period with its simple, painted compartments makes a flat impression from a distance, the facades of the older north wing have a brick-like appearance.
The bricks form z. T. Decorative compartments, the painted beams contain an inscription and fan-like, painted carvings.
The outbuilding, the former coach house, where the aquarium complex is now located, dates from the middle of the 19th century.
The ensemble is almost completely surrounded by a moat, and a wooden bridge leads to the neighboring castle park.
Anyone interested in the building history of the castle will find evidence that is still visible today in the Biosphaerium Elbtalaue in the “Castle Stories” exhibition room on the ground floor and in various places in the exhibition. The various previous buildings can be glimpsed in the basement and the attic, which is explained and illuminated with a sound and light show, shows that attics are more than just “a bunch of beams”.
The buildings include a cobblestone courtyard, which in summer invites you to drink coffee and linger in the Castle Café - always with a view of the castle-like playground.
Various attractive events take place here throughout the year, including open-air concerts, such as the Mecklenburg Festival, the castle festival on the historic weekend, the start of the ElbeVeloTour or concerts for children.
