        The Bismarck Tower has a height of 19.25 m and was built of limestone and granite. The building designed by Prof. Otto Raschendorf from Berlin is designed as an observation tower with a fire bowl, has a square floor plan and was inaugurated in 1904.
        In 1906, the Bismarck Tower became the property of the city of Osterwieck. In 1924, a bronze Bismarck relief was added over the entrance. In 1946 the tower was to be demolished to gain building material. With the help of local politician Wilhelm Gresse, it was possible to prevent the demolition. Gresse convinced his party colleagues in the SED to keep the "Friedensturm" as a memorial against the war.
        After 1992, the tower was renovated several times and is accessible today.
