Before the renovation, the building consisted of three buildings. On the left the winery, in the middle the town hall, and on the right the right house (later weighing house). The prison was in the basement. The magistrate had this winery furnished in 1727 as a representative council chamber for a total amount of Fl. 7,000. The walls are covered with gold leather wallpaper on 352 panels. Paintings have been applied to the walls, including those of William of Orange, Maurits and Frederik Hendrik; painted by Isaac Isaacsz from Amsterdam. The ceiling has a painting, which shows the goddess Hestia in the center, surrounded by gods and goddesses; figures from Greek Mythology. In the center of the mantelpiece is Lady Justice, framed by the family arms of the members of the magistrate, who had co-financed the council chamber. Please contact the city guides for a viewing.
