Remains of a medieval lock tower from the last years of the 13th or early 14th century, built on a strong bend of the Senne. A deed of approval of Duke John of Brabant in 1297, of the sale of a water mill by Wouter van Hollaken to Boudewijn van Echove and Daniël Bouchout, mentions the privilege of building a lock on the Senne; afterwards the Bouchouts became sole owners and in 1360 the mill with lock was donated by Jan Wijtvliet to the abbey of Grimbergen; around 1500 he sells them to the city of Brussels.

Until about 1900, the iconography shows a square tower of sandstone supported by buttresses, covered with a steep tent roof (slate). Today only one facade is standing and the rest is the substructure. Ivy-covered sandstone construction in a fairly small regular context.

At the left arm banks, preserved walls with slots for the lock gates, and water gate: chamfered round arch with profiled elongated molding over the entire length; in the superstructure, a central Gothic three-lobed window, finished with a pointed arch-shaped drip molding, a square window, scaffolding holes and a profiled cornice.

A little more downstream, with greenery overgrown ruins, of the watermill that belonged to it.

The medieval lock tower of Weerde (Zemst) can still be recognized in the sandstone remnants on the Senne. This tower with watermill was built where the tidal action on the river ended. It could run permanently and was important for the wider region. After the First World War, only the ruins of the former toll house remained. The lock tower and the quay walls were protected as a monument in 1979.
