Sontheim was first mentioned in documents in 838 and belonged to the Ottobeuren Reichsstift. Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. As part of the administrative reforms in Bavaria was born with the community edict of 1818, the community Sontheim.

Church of St. Martin

The plastered church has a nave with five window axes. These are followed by the drawn choir with three axes and 3/8 final. In the nave is a surrounding entablature with curved over the window cornices. In the church is on the west side a gallery with curved parapet. The gallery rests on columns with stucco marble. The church tower is equipped with a saddle roof and is located in the north choir angle. On the upper floor of the church tower, which is divided into seven storeys, there are three-part sound arcades on the east and south sides, as well as two-part sound arcades on the north side. The basement of the church tower has a ribbed vault. In the southern corner of the chancel, there is a niche cultivation with a larger-than-life wooden statue of a dungeon from the 18th century.
