Freiburg, originally an island landscape on the Lower Elbe, is located in the Kehdinger Land. Pliny the Elder, who reached the Elbe with a Roman fleet under the command of the general Drusus, reported on riparian people who live mainly from fishing, making their nets from reeds and rushes. The spot was first mentioned in a document in 1154. In 1271, the ruler of Bremen, Archbishop Hildebold von Wunstorf, granted Freiburg city rights, which later dukes and bishops of the city confirmed several times. A document from 1474 states that Freiburg's city law has been aligned with that of the neighboring city of Stade. Furthermore, the city had stacking and market rights.

Very nice old town area. Many special individual houses. It's worth taking a walk through all the alleys and paths, including the backyards. Take time. The restored warehouse with an outbuilding for cyclists is very nice: sanitary building (always clean!), storage space for bikes and lockable compartments for luggage. A walk along the old harbor is interesting. If you like a longer walk, go over the dike towards the Elbe. Bring a camping chair! You sit in the front row on the Elbe when it floods! The attractions just float by. A smartphone app is helpful. Bring binoculars for bird watching. You can always find a café in town

A very nice little place. The side streets also have nice houses. One of the smallest police stations in Lower Saxony is opposite the church. Outstanding is the harbor area and the restored granary. Be sure to look inside! In the Nebengeäude everything is what a cyclist needs: clean sanitary facilities (thank you!), Lockers, garaging for bicycles. Really a good idea.

Hmmm ... I once drove from Ahrensburg to Cuxhaven (and further) and the eternally long stretches along the dike I found super dull! Although it was once a bird or similar. to see, but "pure nature" I feel differently. But my tour was very interesting.

St. Wulphardi Church (Freiburg/Elbe).
The rectangular late classicist hall church made of brick was built in 1837/38 by Ernst Heinrich Blohm in place of a Romanesque basilica that had previously been demolished and was badly damaged by the storm surge of 1825 and was under the rare patronage of St. Wolfhard of Augsburg. The sacristy is in the east, the portal in the west.
The flat walls of the nave are divided by large arched windows.
There is a surrounding cornice at the height of the fighters.
An eight-sided slate roof turret rises from the gable roof near the entrance facade and is covered with a pointed helmet.

The interior is covered by a flat ceiling framed by ornamentally painted coves. The church furnishings from the time it was built include a pulpit altar.
What is characteristic is the gallery that runs around the entire room, the parapet of which is also ornamentally painted and inscribed with Bible verses and other Christian sentences.

The organ is on the western side of the surrounding gallery above the entrance to the church.
The first instrument from an unknown organ builder from 1751 was rebuilt by Carl Johann Heinrich Röver in 1899. Today's organ with 24 registers, divided into two manuals and a pedal, was built in 1986 by the Führer organ building workshop in the old prospectus.
