The Wandsbeker wood is a large, approx. 26 hectare park that stretches for around two kilometers and is up to 200 meters wide. The forest strip is a remnant of the former Wandsbeker estate. That belonged to the merchant Heinrich Carl von Schimmelmann at the end of the 18th century. Today it stretches from the Wandsbeker market square to the Osterkamp, divided into four parts. It's unbelievable what nature is on offer here besides the railway line and the streets.

Few clues today in Hamburg-Wandsbek still indicate that there was once a famous castle with an equally famous park. Between 1772 and 1778, the Danish finance minister Heinrich Carl Graf von Schimmelmann built a magnificent castle on the foundations of the Wandesburg, the former mansion of a noble estate. At the same time, he also had the palace park redesigned, which is still remembered by the Wandsbek forest.
The approximately two-kilometer-long strip of forest between Wandsbeker Markt and Osterkamp in Hamburg's Marienthal district is an important local recreation area for residents.
Although the forest was later cut into four trees by the Hamburg-Lübeck railway line and some streets, it nevertheless developed into a popular local recreation area. The Wandsbek forest is ideal for jogging and walking or just for walking. Numerous benches, for example on one of the ponds in the middle of the beautiful old tree population consisting mainly of oak and beech, invite you to linger. For children there are playgrounds and a soccer field with soccer goals.
