The village of Domfront, which today hosts 3500 inhabitants, was a medieval city rich in history.

Half-timbered houses, superb mansions and the fortified wall surround the 12th century keep.

Even today, the city organizes every other year the "Medieval", various activities which remind tourists of the history of the region.

The medieval town of Domfront, founded in the 9th century, sits high on its hill above the Varenne Valley and has still kept its rich past alive today. It's not just the charming squares and alleys that invite you to stroll, the Romanesque keep from the 12th century, the towers of the fortress wall, the picturesque half-timbered houses, the elegant townhouses and the inner courtyards also enchant visitors.

The Domfronts church dates from the 20th century and has the interior of a Byzantine cross. With its pillarless spaciousness, the church is very beautiful. It is a listed building.

The medieval town of Domfront, standing on its promontory, is one of the "Most Beautiful Detours in France" and of the "Small Towns of Character"
Domfront, rich in its historical past linked to England, has seen many famous people stay in its castle: Aliénor d'Aquitaine, Henri II Plantagenêt, Richard Coeur de Lion, ... It is also Henri Ier Beauclerc, son of William the Conqueror who built the powerful keep whose ruins are visible. One year out of two the city lives to the rhythm of its "Medieval" (street entertainment, market, banquet, ...).
Labeled Site Remarkable Taste for its Poiré and Calvados, Domfront is also all the flavors of the land. Finally, crossed by the Véloscénie and the VéloFrancette, it is labeled city and bicycle tourism territory.
