The only fully functional of the three windmills within the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park is in Ascheberg-Langenrade.
The windmill with the name "Sventana" was built in 1860 in Kleinmühlen near Plön. The mill in Ascheberg has only existed since 1890 as a replacement for a burned-down predecessor. In 1982, three couples who were enthusiastic about the mill decided to make the mill functional again. After a considerable financial investment and many hours of work, the one-story gallery Dutchman has been windable and fully functional again since 1990. The renovation of the mill blades was financially supported, e.g. through state funds for nature parks.

The mill and its keepers received the German Prize for Monument Protection in 2012. Since 2019, the Sventana mill has even been recognized as an intangible World Heritage Site by Unesco. The condition for this is that the mill actively produces "marketable flour" and does not just function as a museum. Today, the mill can grind grain in three different ways.
So the highlight: freshly ground rye meal as well as wheat and spelled flour from Bioland cultivation is almost always in stock.
