You should definitely go under the bridge. An impressive sight even for laypeople.
The bridge was built in 1969-72 and has a length of 935 meters. Height above the Moselle 136 meters.

The Moseltalbrücke is the crossing of the federal autobahn 61 over the Moselle and at the same time connects the Hunsrück with the Eifel. The motorway bridge lies between the municipalities of Dieblich and Winningen.

The Moselle valley bridge was built between 1969 and 1972 on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport as part of the new construction of the Federal Motorway 61. The road administration of Rhineland-Palatinate and the road construction department of Andernach were involved in the construction. The companies Schnor Pfeil/Heinz Schnor Pfeil Bau GmbH, DSD Dillinger Stahlbau, Ed. Züblin AG, Julius Berger Bauboag AG and Lenz-Bau AG. On July 1, 1971, an engineer fell to his death while surveying from the rock of Blumslay. At that time, the bridge cost around 40 million DM.

In the initial construction phase, special problems arose with the foundation. Around 22 meters thick layers of gravel and sand were found in the Moselle valley, which would have counteracted the stable statics of the bridge. A deep foundation with large concrete bored piles of up to 24 meters in length had to be made in order to reach solid rock.

The steel superstructure of the bridge was started from Dieblich over the Moselle. Using auxiliary supports, a 12 meter long section of the steel box girder was driven in 56 so-called shots. The remaining hollow box sections, each with 22 sections, were then installed from Winningen using the same method. The box girder parts, which were prefabricated elsewhere, were attached to the construction site using cantilever arms, assembled and complemented with cover plates.
