Like all the canals that cross Milan, this is also a particularly important waterway, because it connects two of the main Lombard cities: Pavia and Milan. The canals were very important communication routes at the time, comparable to modern railways, because they were able to move goods, but also people. In particular, this waterway ensured the transit of goods in Pavia and then allowed Milan to be connected through the Ticino and the Po to the sea. It is along its path that you can find the remains of the industrial period it was: first of all mills and spinning mills, but also evidence of the agricultural past of this area (farmhouses). All these things can still be observed along the cycle path that accompanies this canal, a very easy road suitable for any type of bike and body.

After Binasco, coming from Milan, there is a small stretch of ghaia that can be easily tackled by racing bike.

The final stretch towards Certosa di Pavia is beautiful and peaceful. Obviously an obligatory stop to visit the Certosa, a masterpiece.
