The Pfandleralm is at 1350m and is a pearl in this area. Here you can stay, not many rooms, but very nice owners and great food. This is where Andreas Hofer was captured.

The Pfandleralm is located at 1350 meters above sea level on Prantacher Berg above St. Martin in Passeier. After the collapse of the Tyrolean uprising in 1809, the Commander-in-Chief Andreas Hofer, together with his wife Anna, his only son Johann and his adjutant Kajethan Sweth, fled to a hut on the Pfandleralm. At Hofer's capture, a bounty of 1,500 guilders was suspended. The Gruebhofbauer Franz Raffl betrayed the hiding place to the French authorities. At dawn on January 28, 1810, a 600-strong contingent of French soldiers on the Pfandleralm and could arrest Hofer. In November 1919 the wooden hut burnt down completely. In 1947, it was rebuilt and the marble plaque recalls the historic events.

The Pfandler Alm is located above St. Martin in Passeier in Prantach at 1,350 m above sea level. First, in November 1809, Andreas Hofer hid with his wife, child and even the clerk on the Keldererhof, shortly afterwards on the Pfandlerhof. The French troops had announced their arrival: They wanted to move into the country via the Jaufenpass.
On December 11, 1809, Hofer sent his family to a hiding place on the Schneeberg and hiked up to the hut at the Pfandler Alm. His family came to visit him on Christmas Eve and stayed there. The refugees remained undetected for a month and a half. Andreas Hofer was warned, but he stayed in his shelter anyway. Here he and his family were arrested by French and Italians - on January 28, 1810 - and then taken to Mantua. Hofer's family was released in Bolzano, and he himself was shot in Mantua on February 20th, 1810.
The hut on the Pfandler Alm burned down in 1919 and was rebuilt true to the original by the riflemen from the Passeier Valley in 1984.

The Pfandleralm was Andreas Hofer's last refuge. It is beautifully situated on a small plain. Unfortunately today was a rest day. It is already posted at the parking lot whether the Alm is open or not.
