This is the smaller, more accessible lake that emerged after the basalt quarries near Forst were abandoned in the 1980s. Today it's a nature reserve, so you'd better avoid swimming here. It's definitely worth seeing.

One can go down well, the other is not accessible, as it has dangerous steep walls all around, it is also fenced. But you can look at some places in the 100-meter deep hole. From the basalt lake shore, you walk about a kilometer further in the direction of Heidenlöcher. At the junction there, take the path to the left and after about 120 meters you come to the edge of the former quarry, where the basalt lake is located. A warning sign and a fence warn of the steep drop! Anyway, the view is phenomenal

At first gently rising, later relatively steeply rising to the basalt lake. This pays the effort further it goes to the corner head and then through pitoresque forests with partly sandy paths downhill towards Wachenheim. Mostly in the shade, what made it look enjoyable.
