The Naviglio della Martesana starts in Trezzo Sull'Adda and ends after 38 km in Milan. In 1968 it was covered in via Melchiorre Gioia, but in the past its waters flowed into the internal ditch of the Navigli up to the Darsena.

Built starting in 1457 for navigation and irrigation purposes, it was made navigable in 1471. In 1777, with the opening of the Naviglio di Paderno built to overcome the rapids on the Adda north of Trezzo, the connection between Milan and Como's lake.
