The Exelberg is a mountain in Lower Austria, near the city limits of Vienna in the northern Wienerwald. It is 516 m above sea level. A. A state road leads from Exbingberg from Tulbing in the Tulln district to Wiener Höhenstrasse. The mountain is known for the Exelbergrennen that is held here on the road. This competition, organized by the Austrian Automobile Club, [1] was the oldest motor car race in Austria [2] -Hungary [3] and took place on May 21, 1899 [4] [3] for the first time. They were used as car races until 1904 [5]. In 1910 there was another motorcycle race. The road is still a popular motorcycle route today.
The Exelberg transmission tower stands today on the Exelberg. There is also an outdoor rifle and pistol outdoor shooting range owned by the Bundesforste, which is used by the Vienna police, among others. Due to the z. T. strong noise pollution, there have already been various neighboring protests against this system. The Eckbach, a tributary of the Als, and the Halterbach, a tributary of the Vienna, originate on Exelberg.
