At Kreuzweingarten, the Roman Canal hiking trail encounters some outcrops again. The foundations of a small Roman building can be seen right next to the line route. The Roman temple, which is 4.0 m x 4.3 m in the clear, probably had niches on three sides that served as locations for statues of deities. Possibly these were cult buildings to protect the water pipe. (Source: Römerkanal-Wanderweg, Et. 3)

Some outcrops of the Roman Canal can be seen under the tall trees south of the Kreuzweingarten sports field. In addition, the Roman canal route is easy to follow due to the medieval excavation ditch in this section of the route. To the northeast of the sports field, the route descends to the Erft lowlands.

The small Roman building, located directly next to the pipeline route, was discovered in 1928 before it could be archaeologically examined in 1967. The building, measuring 4.0 m x 4.3 m in size, probably once had niches on three sides that served as locations for statues of deities. This finding confirmed the assumption that a small temple can be seen in this building.

Since temples of this size were also found directly next to the water pipe in Hombusch near Mechernich and in Mechernich-Breitenbenden (Station 17), it seems permissible to see these as cult buildings to protect the water pipe. Source: roemerkanal.de/bauwerk
