The trunks of the ancient olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane are no taller than five or six meters, but because of their old age they are so fragmented that the visitor is inclined to ponder their liveliness. But yes, they are still growing and thriving, the green, narrow leaves give a living testimony. Such an olive tree is astonishing, especially when it is in such a historically important place.

"After the last supper, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. His whole fear of death is concentrated in the words that have come down to us (cf. Mt. 26, 36-46). But the three disciples who were present were asleep. Gethsemane is on foot of the Mount of Olives. We feel transported back to the time of Jesus. (...) The Garden of Gethsemane with its quiet olive grove gives us the right atmosphere for prayer and reflection".
