“That's what it sounds like in the mountains” is just one of Herbert Roth's 300 songs.
He was the region's folk musician par excellence.
His most famous song is the “Rennsteiglied”.
The 22-kilometer-long circular hiking trail around Suhl is also intended to remind us of this.
Suhl was the composer's hometown.
His music is very much connected to home and nature, the Rennsteiglied, the anthem of the Rennsteig, has long since advanced from popular to folk music.
Hiking on the Herbert Roth hiking trail, the Suhl Panorama Trail, is attractive in every season.
Different trail conditions, fresh forest air, wonderful views of the city of Suhl and the mountains surrounding it make it particularly attractive.
With constantly changing ascents and descents, even hikers who are used to heights will be challenged here.
Herbert Roth himself spent a lot of time outdoors, and some of his compositions were probably written there.
You can also take worthwhile detours from this path to explore the musician's life even more.
