Be sure to take a charged smartphone with you. As the Obersee & Orankesee support association, we have just completed an audio tour on the history and stories surrounding the two lakes. Professional, with professional speakers and great authors. On the benches by the lake there are small boards with the respective website, URL and QR code. Enjoy listening. The Obersee is a body of water in the Berlin district of Alt-Hohenschönhausen. Together with the Orankesee, it forms the core of the Hohenschönhauser villa district on the Orankesee. The name of the artificially created body of water results from the fact that the water level of the lake is around 1.50 meters higher than that of its neighbor.

The Obersee was created in 1895 as a water reservoir and ice supplier for the Löwenbrauerei AG located on Konrad-Wolf-Straße (then Berliner Straße). No earthworks had to be carried out for the lake as the filled area was previously a natural depression. In it were the Erftpfuhl and the Lindenwerderlake. The second villa colony of Hohenschönhausen was built around the area at the beginning of the 20th century, and the lake has been completely enclosed by buildings since the 1960s.
