In the Polenztal we find one of the largest wild occurrences of Märzenbechern in Saxony. The strongly meandering Polenz flows through the valley and gives the meadows the necessary moisture. The water table is very high, so there is a lot of moisture. Artificially created irrigation ditches on the borderline between hillside forest and meadow favor the microclimate.

The wet meadows offer ideal conditions for these early bloomers, which bloom between the beginning of March and the beginning of April. Historical records show that as early as 1500, these meadows were mowed twice a year to harvest hay. The regular late first cut at the end of June favored the sowing and thus the spread of the Märzenbecher. Around 1900 it developed into a tourist attraction. The Landesverein Sächsischer Heimatschutz acquired around 2 hectares of meadows and 1 hectare of forest below the Bockmühle in 1928 and initiated the first protective measures.

It is designated as a nature reserve Märzenbecherwiese. By not entering the meadows, this special natural spectacle is preserved.

Very beautiful here, especially at the time of early flowering and a short time later during the late flowering.

On the weekend when the weather is nice there are lots and lots of people here. It's better during the week or with a little water from above...

The meadows are very pretty.

I can only highly recommend it.
