Here is the Saxon Railway Museum Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf with many steam, diesel and electric locomotives as well as information on the Saxon railway history, the Chemnitz Hartmann locomotive works and life around the railway.
There is also a rope drainage system with which trains were assembled.
The large command signal box 3 is part of the museum, as is the unique coal bunker system near the roundhouse. Old and new railway "traffic" signs are explained along a path across the site, as well as the functions of different components of a steam locomotive in the roundhouse.
Special steam train journeys also start here regularly.
Friendly staff try to explain every question, no matter how special, sometimes in a humorous way.
In late summer, the "Heizhausfest" takes place here as the highlight of the railway year.
